“I wanted to give a woman comfortable clothes that would flow with her body. A woman is closest to being naked when she is well-dressed.”

THE BOOK

TILDA SWINTON/ VIRGINIA WOOLF: ORLANDO

Orlando: A Biography is an influential novel by Virginia Woolf, first published on 11 October 1928. A semi-biographical novel based in part on the life of Woolf’s lover Vita Sackville-West, it is generally considered one of Woolf’s most accessible novels. The novel has been influential stylistically, and is considered important in literature generally, and particularly in the history of women’s writing and gender studies.

It has inspired adaptations: in 1989 director Robert Wilson and writer Darryl Pinckney collaborated on a theatrical production. A film adaptation was released in 1992, starring Tilda Swinton as Orlando and Quentin Crisp as Queen Elizabeth I. Another stage adaption by Sarah Ruhl premiered in New York City in 2010.

MERCEDES BENZ: L’ EAU

Form: iridescent in icy shades of powder, pastel shades of the new edition accentuate casual style and the joy of life. The new composition is sparkling and romantic, extremely feminine. Leaving the characteristic floral blend in the heart, perfumer Michel Almairac adds juiciness and freshness in the initial notes by introducing black currant along with peach and bergamot zest. A bouquet of roses, mimosa and lily of the valley make the unique core of the composition with an underlying layer of amber, cedar and sensual white musk. Perfume MERCEDES BENZ L’EAU arrives as 30, 60 and 90 ml EDT.

A ROSE BOUQUET

From the palest pinks to dusky damask hues, designers drenched the autumn/winter 2013-14 collections in a warm rosy glow.

An overtly feminine and flattering palette, head-to-toe rose tones offer a beautiful spin on autumn’s pre-eminent trend: the new womanly allure.

“Pink makes the prettiest addition to winter wardrobes; partner it with soft grey and black for an instant burst of femininity,” advises Vogue fashion features director Sarah Harris.

The pink piece to invest in this winter is a coat. “This season pink is big for outerwear,” says Vogue fashion editor Francesca Burns. “Woolly coats from Celine, Miu Miu and Mulberry will brighten gloomy days.”

A trend that transcends both evening and day, slip dresses and shifts for cocktail hour came in rosy hues at Nina Ricci, Lanvin and Jonathan Saunders.
